Summer time! Ok, I recall Bugs Bunny when I was still a kid. And in his excitement for summer he goes "Hurrah.. no more books, no more school, no more teacher and homeworks" Lucky for him he goes to school. But what about me? I don't go to school since I am already working. The pressure of work and the stress one has to go throughout ones life. I was dying to do something that would get my groove back and put more color in my corporate employee life!
I loved the stage since I was 8 years old and not to be too bragging about it, I was actually a stage person at that early age. I joined a group which at that time regularly performs at the Cultural Center of the Philippines showcasing ethnic dances from the Philippines and China. I have experienced dancing before the late former Philippine President Corazon Aquino and the Republic of China's Ambassador to Philippines whom I cannot remember because I was only like 11 years old when I was in that big production.
I stopped dancing when I entered High School to focus on my studies. I've been away the stage for so long that I have forgotten my love for it. But when you are really destined to be in something, it will find it's way to reconnect to you. This summer, I enrolled in a musical theater adults class at TRUMPETS. These classes introduces the basics of musical theatre through theatre exercises, theatre games and creative dramatics. Musical theatre cultivates positive attitudes towards art and the discipline, or are, and about themselves in relation to art. Furthermore, it derives pleasure from a combination of senses, emotions, intellect, philosophy, imagination and spirit. There will also be a showcase at the end of the workshop. We were 18 adults under the supervision of the international actress Jenny Jamora and Red Conception who shared the same stage with Monique Wilson, Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo of Repertory Philippines and other veteran thespians in the Philippines. The workshop was really fun! She taught us the basics of Musical Theater acting. I never thought that Musical theater acting would also require that much energy. Although every workshop drains my energy, funny thing is, I never felt tired of doing it. I always look forward to every workshop. I gained 19 friends including our teachers and our musical director. This summer is the most memorable. Being with these people is just Priceless!
Our show is on May 22, 2010 it is entitled "When the Earth Stopped Turning.. from brokenness back to God". a musical revue that charts the way from brokenness to realization and, eventually, back to God. This is my first step in coming back to stage and trying another discipline in the arts so please bear with me. And to my friends, Break a leg!
